Sawatdii Kaaa!
When one thinks of Thailand, it probably conjures images of white sand beaches and the bluest of waters, serene temples and lush green mountain jungles, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But there is so much more!
The capital is Bangkok, a 21st century playground literally made for every travel budget in mind. From the scent of spicy food that fills the air, to the hustle and bustle in the streets packed with tuk-tuks and scooters alike, to the sky high rooftop bars which make it a perfect way to say goodbye to the sun everyday. This country awaits you.
Outside the capital, the wonders of the countryside are ready to enchant you; whether you are trekking in the remote villages in the northern hills, or diving in the waters of the southern coast. The unique spirit and resilience of the Thai people – which is also known as the “land of smiles,” is a country that can not be missed.
Now this list is in no particular order but merely all the reasons why I love Thailand and can’t wait to go back!
Food – well maybe this list is in order because my love affair with food heightened when I came to live here – To most food lovers, Thailand is a culinary hotspot, both literally and figuratively. To eat food that you know is truly from Mother Earth without added chemicals and colors. Vegetables and fruits taste nothing like you have had before. Don’t forget to try your hand at a cooking class – they almost all include a start at the food market to buy fresh ingredients from the local farmers.

Architecture – you would be denying yourself some awe inspiring works of art if you didn’t visit any “Wats” when you go to Thailand. Wat in Thai means temple – and they can range from simple to wildly ornate complexes – where both locals and monks come to improve their karma and honor the Buddha with gifts. Remember to be respectful when you go inside, shoes off at the front and never point your toes towards a Budhha.

Spas/Massages – In the US, spas and massages are usually regulated for gifts or splurges. Throw away that idea when you come here, the affordability of massages here allow you to get one everyday if you so wish. Now I must warn you – Thai massages are not for the faint of heart – they can be extreme and rigorous but at the same time if done right can increase flexibility and provide real relief to aches and pains. Massages are usually booked by the hour and start from 200bht and up (5.50usd) – you can always say bow bow kup (if you’re male) or bow bow ka (if you’re female) if you want softer pressure.

Nature – Hiking and biking are in abundance all around the country – If you can, add Khao Sok National Park to your list! It is a bit of a trek to get here but it is so worth the journey. One of the most spectacular landscapes in Thailand; it’s lush greenery to the rare flora and fauna and its towering mountain ranges.

Beaches – with its white sandy beaches, crystal blue waters, laid back lifestyle and killer sunsets that are proof that endings can be beautiful too. You can rock climb in Railay, experience the best snorkeling and diving in the island of Koh Tao, or experience health wellness on the hippy laid back island of Koh Phangan. There is simply something for everyone on every island. I must say you will find prices down here higher than other areas of Thailand, due to the number of visitors and expats.

Thailand honestly offers so many amazing experiences, and should be on every traveler’s list.
safe travels
